Zipper Anatomy or Zipper 101

 Coil Zipper
A coil zipper is flat on one side with the coil teeth on the other. The teeth look like a small, long coil loop sewn onto the zipper tape. Each coil is connected to the next. Coil zippers bend easier and are ideal Jeep® soft top windows.

 Tooth Zipper
The teeth on a tooth zipper are visible on both sides of the tape. The teeth themselves look more like the teeth in your mouth.  The "tooth" zipper discussion here is only as a reference. I don't know of any tooth type zippers currently used on Jeeps. (Could be wrong.....again?)

 Sizes -

  • #8 coil is used primarily in better quality luggage, bags, heavy duty sleeping bags and Jeep® upper half door windows.
  • #10 is used by manufacturers for the large, heavy duty duffel bags or back packs and Jeep® side and rear soft top windows.

With the information above, you should now know that you have coil zippers. Now we need to identify the size.

The easiest method to identify the size and type of the zipper sliders on the Jeep® soft top is to look at the insertion pin on the drivers side of the rear window and note the number "10" and the letter "C" stamped on the insertion pin ( shown on pictures below ).

If you find something other then a "10 C" or maybe no stamped information then email that information and we will work from there.

A few more ways to identify the the slider..............................

Number 8 (8mm) and number 10 (10mm). Number 8 is smaller then number 10. In non metric sizes the #10 coil and tooth sliders are about 3/8th's of an inch wide and number #8 is about 1/4 of an inch wide. Also on the metal pull tabs, you should see "YKK" stamped on it (not on lace grip pulls) and if you look very close on the "nose" of the slider body you'll see a "C" (for coil) and the number 8 or 10 (size) stamped on it.

One final note is that the Jeep soft top sliders on the back window panel are slightly different then the sliders on the side soft top window panels, however both are "10C" sliders. This is the reason you have the option of ordering sliders for the side or back window or a complete kit of both types. Slider Ordering
